Organization Description

A 1937 heritage-designated Art Deco venue in Toronto's Bloorcourt neighbourhood, Paradise reopens in 2019 following a highly anticipated renovation.

Paradise offers a unique, welcoming experience through food, drink and the arts. The complex includes: Paradise Theatre, a state-of-the-art venue presenting a curated mix of newly released films, older classics and undiscovered gems, as well as live music, talk series and multi-arts events; Osteria Rialto, a full-service restaurant offering up fresh, seasonal ingredients in dishes that innovate on classic Italian cuisine; and Bar Biltmore, where spritzes, sours and negronis are enjoyed alongside small bites.

The building on this site has operated as a cinema since 1910, and we are proud to continue its century-long tradition of bringing Torontonians together.

Job Description

The Paradise service team works to provide the highest quality of hospitality to all of our guests dining within Osteria Rialto and Bar Biltmore. The service team works and reports to the General Manager, Operations Manager and Operations Supervisor. There is room to work between units as needed or desired. 

Responsible for providing exceptional levels of hospitality to all guests, suppliers and strategic partners of Paradise, we're looking for a passionate, knowledgeable and skilled service team, with outgoing and friendly personalities to help bring the vibrant and exciting atmosphere of the century-old landmark to life.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following)

  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of Osteria Rialto and Bar Biltmore, both food and beverage, to ensure a high standard of service for guests

  • Maintain knowledge of all available seating areas within Paradise Theatre, including Rialto, Biltmore, and all in-theatre offerings

  • Assist in the delivery of core hospitality within Rialto and Biltmore to the utmost output potential.

  • Work with the entire service team to ensure that all service bar drinks are made accurately, as per the guest's requests`

  • Maintain the service area for aesthetic, health and safety and hygiene purposes

  • Prepare, stock and maintain service areas before, during and after service; including preparation of linens, stocking of smallware shelving, and cutlery polished if necessary.

  • Assist in the service of guests one-on-one or in groups, in a friendly, professional and knowledgeable manner

  • Uphold standards of service during high-volume moments

  • Maintain and assist in facilitating an excellent guest experience

  • Identify and accommodate special guest requests

  • Attend all required meetings to keep abreast of in-house activities, promotions, and upcoming events

  • Take ownership of the concierge position by embracing an opportunity when it is presented. Find new and exciting hospitality-driven exercises to explore with the goal to enhance the guest’s overall experience.

  • Plan the reservation book and guest seating for service

  • Organize and lead concierge team

  • Print and maintain up-to-date menus

  • Recognize and welcome guests

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with the service team

  • Control the pacing of seating and manage service team accordingly

  • Ensure proper memorization of all wines BTG as well as house cocktail recipes.

Requirements

Work Environment

  • The work environment can be loud and busy

  • There are many restaurant hazards such as hot surfaces, liquids, sharp knives, and slippery floors

  • This position regularly requires long hours and weekend work

Physical Demands

  • The employee is required to stand for up to 12 hours at a time as well as walk, bend, stoop, climb, balance, kneel and crawl

  • The position requires working taste buds, ability to smell, feel with fingers and visually inspect, including close and distance vision

  • Lifting and/or moving up to 20 lbs. regularly; occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs.

  • Manual dexterity required to use a computer and peripherals

Experience

  • 2+ years of service experience in casual-fine dining or upscale dining venues with a hospitality focus

  • Understanding of basic wine and liquor varietals, techniques, brands and service

  • Understanding of world cuisine and current dining trends.

  • Experience working with reservations systems and software

  • Understanding of culinary techniques, professional cooking equipment, and material

  • Proven track record in maintaining excellent guest relations

  • Knowledge of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures
