The Social Distancing Weekly: April 3, 2020
Days, by Philip Larkin
What are days for?
Days are where we live.
They come, they wake us
Time and time over.
They are to be happy in:
Where can we live but days?
On this day, we bring you:
- Movies at home
- Tools for your personal projects
- Virtual tourism
- Community and kindness
- Help with groceries
Movies at home:
Tribeca Film Festival
Their 2020 festival is canceled, but Tribeca is posting one short film each day on its website under the rubric “A Short Film a Day Keeps the Anxiety Away.”
We're delighted to partner with some of our favourite film distributors and present new movies with Virtual Paradise Theatre:
This "blend of low-key supernatural chills and offbeat Irish comedy, is one of the sweetest and funniest movies of the year" (Danielle Solzman).
Luchino Visconti's final film is a “luscious stab to the heart of the aristocracy” (Los Angeles Times).
"This informative and kooky documentary offers nothing less than a model for planetary survival" (New York Times).
Tools for your personal projects:
Make a Grimes Music Video
Grimes has posted green-screen footage, song stems and software resources for her new hit You’ll Miss Me When I’m Not Around: all you need to make a music video.
New York Times Cooking
Ever been stymied by a NYT recipe behind paywall? Get free access with your Toronto Public Library card.
Intro to 3D Printing
Our dear neighbours The Maker Bean Cafe walk you through all the steps you'll need for 3D modelling and printing, with free software!
The Getty's collection is showcased and creatively recreated from home(s) in this delightful Twitter thread.
Community and kindness:
Our neighbours at Sistering have temporarily moved location to a venue with more space for social distancing. They continue to do great work, like sewing masks for front-line workers.
Toronto Restaurant Workers Fund
A campaign for weekly grocery assistance for Toronto restaurant workers affected by the closures due to COVID-19.
Help with groceries:
How safe is the grocery store?
Vox has posed your COVID-19 grocery shopping questions to the experts.
Our friends at Montgomery's Restaurant have launched a CSA-style box focused on sustainability and seasonality.
WineAlign is offering mixed sampler cases of wine from overflowing agency consignment portfolios. (And yes, they're the source of that great keyboard image!)
