Giuseppe Tornatore’s wistful look at films and the effect they have took home the Grand Prix at Cannes and the Oscar for best foreign film in 1989. Tornatore’s semi-autobiographical tale of a boy who finds a substitute father in the projectionist of his small town’s theatre is a nostalgia-soaked love letter to cinema and the magic of the movie house.

In Italian with English subtitles.
