Cutie and the Boxer

Play Trailer

"I think opposites attract. The ones that think alike drift apart," says Noriko, aka Cutie, who's been married for 40 years to Ushio, an artist famed for his Dadaist ‘action pictures’ created by boxing paint onto canvas. The couple quarrel constantly and compete for finding value and recognition within their relationship and beyond, all while struggling to make ends meet. Zachary Heinzerling's Oscar-nominated documentary is a compassionate, humorous and heartbreaking portrait of two artists whose souls are often at odds, but forever intertwined. This screening is presented in partnership with the Japan Foundation.
