Hayao Miyazaki’s metaphorical and literal fish out of water fairytale tells the captivating story of Ponyo, a goldfish-like sea creature who longs to live on land. Upon forming an unlikely friendship with a young boy, Sosuke, Ponyo invokes the magic of the ocean to transform herself into a human, a decision that leads to much aquatic upheaval. While Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid is a clear influence, this is as distinct a Miyazaki film as any of the visionary director’s other works, and equally as playful and enchanting.

Paradise will be presenting the English dub of Ponyo.

The recommended minimum age for this film is 5.
