Taking the original Mohawk name of Toronto for its title, Métis director Shane Belcourt’s first feature centres on a chance two-day encounter between Anishinaabe painter Jolene (Melanie McLaren) and part-Métis TV writer Ray (Duane Murray). The pair’s budding, but complicated, romance forms the backbone of this exploratory meditation on culture and identity. No less relevant today, 12 years on from when the film first premiered at imagineNATIVE Film & Media Arts Festival.

Following the screening, director Shane Belcourt and the film’s leading actors, Melanie McLaren and Duane Murray, will participate in a Q&A led by imagineNATIVE’s Executive Director, Jason Ryle.
