French director Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Girlhood) has built her career on examining the intricacies of queer life. Her second feature, Tomboy, looks at a childhood exploration of queerness through 10-year-old Laure. Upon arriving in a new neighbourhood, Laure is mistaken for a boy and sees an opportunity to explore her identity. As Laure’s alter ego, Mickäel, begins to bond with a girl next door, an innocent exploration takes a turn for the complicated.

In French with English subtitles.
