Wings of Desire

Play Trailer

In between eavesdropping on the internal monologues of Berliners and attending Nick Cave concerts, invisible guardian angels Damiel (Bruno Ganz) and Cassiel (Otto Sander) compare notes on the peculiarities of existence they bear witness to below. But when Damiel’s observations lead him to fall in love with a beautiful trapeze artist, he must decide whether to take the plunge into mortality to be with her. Master filmmaker Wim Wenders arranges lyrical vignettes of everyday life into an existential mosaic of staggering, joyful power, rendered beautifully in both black and white and colour through Henri Alekan’s luminous cinematography.

Co-presented by the Goethe-Institut Toronto.
