The Paradise Presents: MATERIAL GIRLS- a cinematic exploration of consumerism through a feminine lens. Join us for nine glossy pictures, with distinctive forms of pop sensibilities, that satirize and comment on the world in which we live.

It's no wonder why Madonna chose to emulate Marilyn Monroe's iconic number "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" when recording her music video for the single that inspired the title of our series. And it's no wonder why we chose to highlight the film in our series- The Paradise Presents Howard Hawks' GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES.

Lorelei Lee (Marilyn Monroe) is a beautiful showgirl engaged to be married to the wealthy Gus Esmond (Tommy Noonan), much to the disapproval of Gus' rich father, Esmond Sr., who thinks that Lorelei is just after his money. When Lorelei goes on a cruise accompanied only by her best friend, Dorothy Shaw (Jane Russell), Esmond Sr. hires Ernie Malone (Elliott Reid), a private detective, to follow her and report any questionable behavior that would disqualify her from the marriage.
