After the Trip: 1970s Psychedelia
“Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run, but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant.”
-Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
THIS AUGUST: Psychedelic culture burned fast and bright in the mid to late 1960s, reaching an apex in 1969 with the Woodstock festival. From there it seemed popular culture’s voyage into counter culture was officially over- Nixon was elected, Jimi Hendrix was dead, and the Osmonds were signed to MGM records. This month we are exploring the traces that remained and continued to flicker- in even darker spaces. The Paradise Presents … AFTER THE TRIP: 1970s Psychedelia.
