EVIL WOMEN presents FEMALE TROUBLE: 50th Anniversary!

FEMALE TROUBLE (1974)

From May 10th - 18th The historic Paradise Theatre presents FLURRY OF FILTH: A John Waters Retrospective- spanning 35 years of artistic output from the Pope of Trash himself. This week-long descent into celluloid atrocities is presented by Weird Alice of Drag Me to the Movies.

Every month, we dedicate one screening to EVIL WOMEN in every shape and form, and for May we are focusing on the larger than life Divine in the comedic, obscene, nasty, horrible, hilarious, shocking, downright criminal - it’s none other than FEMALE TROUBLE (1974) for its 50th anniversary!

NICE GIRLS DON’T WEAR CHA-CHA HEELS! Dawn Davenport (Divine) is anything but nice in this film where we follow her progression from bratty schoolgirl to crazed mass murderer - all of which stems from her parents’ refusal to buy her cha-cha heels for Christmas.

Everything that John Waters has to say in his films, he says it best in Female Trouble. A true portrait of beauty… the beauty of horrifying cinema, that is. John’s “Dreamlanders” are in full force in this movie including Mink Stole as Taffy Davenport, a malnourished and utter nightmare of a 14-year-old; Edith Massey as the hetero-hating unlikely sexpot Aunt Ida, David Lochary and Mary Vivian Pearce as the glamorous yet cruel Donald and Donna Dasher, Cookie Mueller and Susan Walsh as Concetta and Chicklette - Dawn’s fashionable criminal girl gang. See just how far all these women will go and what truly constitutes FEMALE TROUBLE.
