From May 10th - 18th The historic Paradise Theatre presents FLURRY OF FILTH: A John Waters Retrospective- spanning 35 years of artistic output from the Pope of Trash himself. This week-long descent into celluloid atrocities is presented by Weird Alice of Drag Me to the Movies.

THE WORLD WAS IN A MESS ... BUT THEIR HAIR WAS PERFECT! Sport your bouffant and your dancing shoes for our screening of 1988's HAIRSPRAY! Witness the politically charged trashterpiece that inspired the hit Broadway musical and subsequent 2007 film remake. Pleasantly Plump’ teenager Tracy Turnblad (Ricki Lake) achieves her dream of becoming a regular on the Corny Collins Dance Show. Now a teen hero, she starts using her fame to speak out for the causes she believes in, most of all integration. In doing so, she earns the wrath of the show’s former star, Amber Von Tussle (Vitamin C), as well as Amber’s manipulative, pro-segregation parents (Sonny Bono & Debbie Harry). The rivalry comes to a head as Amber and Tracy vie for the title of Miss Auto Show 1963.

Hairspray is far more sharp-tongued than its modern musical adaptation, where we get to see teens use popular art to push for large-scale societal change. As inspirational as it is camp and bizarre, and the only film John ever released that received a PG rating!

This screening has been generously brought to you by our sponsors at The Drake Hotel.
