K-Fab is proud to present BUJALSKI: A COMPLETE RETROSPECTIVE
Acclaimed independent filmmaker Andrew Bujalski will be joining us in-person for a three day retrospective including all seven of his features, including the CANADIAN PREMIERE of his newest film, There There. An innovative, distinct voice in the landscape of American independent cinema, Bujalski’s naturalistic, slice-of-life approach to filmmaking dubbed him by many as the pioneer of ‘mumblecore,’ following his low-budget portraits of aimless twenty-somethings in Funny Ha Ha (2002) and Mutual Appreciation (2005). However, across his increasingly eclectic filmography, Bujalski has proven himself to be difficult to categorize as belonging to any singular movement or style. From his PortaPak-period-piece Computer Chess (2013) about the early days of A.I. that plays more and more eerily as time goes on to his colourful forays into the worlds of fitness and franchise sports bars in Results (2015) and Support the Girls (2019), Bujalski's evolving range is countered by one clear consistency: a humanistic commitment to capturing the idiosyncrasies and the blurry yet rich inner worlds of every character who enters the frame.
Each screening will be followed by a Q&A with Andrew Bujalski
