Paradise Book Club is a bi-monthly screening series presented in partnership with TYPE Books. Hosted by Kevin Greenspan and Claire Foster, Paradise Book Club explores the art of adaptation with a selection of films based on a wide range of novels, short stories and nonfiction.
Books will be available for purchase in the Paradise lobby courtesy of TYPE.
On September 24, Paradise Book Club officially kicks off with a screening of Alex Garland’s ANNIHILATION.
Based on Jeff VanderMeer’s Nebula Award-winning novel, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, ANNIHILATION follows a biologist (Natalie Portman) as she joins an expedition into Area X, a restricted environmental zone on the coast that’s been transformed by unknown forces.
A loose but inspired interpretation of the original book, Garland’s film evolves and reshapes its story in unexpected ways, spinning VanderMeer’s singular weird fiction into a thrilling and disturbing meditation on the nature of change and self-destruction.
Get ready for the event by picking up a copy of the 10th Anniversary reissue of Annihilation at TYPE BOOKS – we’ll also have copies available at the screening!
