PARADISE presents NASHVILLE w/ DARRYL HANNAH LIVE!

NASHVILLE (1975)

The Paradise Presents ... THE SUMMER SESSIONS. Join us in July and August as we explore musical styles and modes of performance in film. This screening series is split into two parts- each chronicling the distinctive cinematic language of a genre, and each featuring a special presentation of BAND AND A MOVIE- pairing a film in the series with a live performance from a local musical act! Throughout the summer we will be paying tribute to the transcendental work of documentary filmmaker Les Blank- known for his vivid portraits of traditional musicians. Selected screenings will be preceded by a Les Blank short relating to the month's genre.

VOL I. BOOTS & ROOTS- Country and Folk Music on screen: We are kicking off the series with a tribute to the traditional musical stylings of the American southwest. Join us for a month of country and folk music at the movies!

WILD. WONDERFUL. SINFUL. LAUGHING. EXPLOSIVE. Join us on Friday July 6th as we kick off the Summer Sessions with the 4K Restoration of Robert Altman's American epic NASHVILLE, featuring a live performance from local country duo DARRYL HANNAH!

Darryl Hannah's music is a fusion of contrasting elements, creating a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly new. Their use of pedal steel guitar pays homage to the classic country sound, while their incorporation of drum machines and synthesizers adds a modern, psychedelic twist. The result is a captivating mix of twangy melodies, dreamy soundscapes, and infectious beats that invite listeners to lose themselves in the music.

In this acclaimed Robert Altman drama, the lives of numerous people in the Tennessee capital intersect in unpredictable ways. Delbert Reese (Ned Beatty) is a lawyer and political organizer who is having difficulties in his marriage to Linnea (Lily Tomlin), a gospel vocalist. Other performers heavily featured in this renowned ensemble production include country singers Barbara Jean (Ronee Blakley) and Connie White (Karen Black), who are rivals in the city's thriving music scene.
