The Paradise is thrilled to partner with the Toronto Film Society to bring classics to the big screen! TFS is one of Canada’s oldest film appreciation groups. It was originally formed to meet the demand for Canadian and international forgotten, banned, independent, and fringe sound and silent films, and to support their preservation and restoration.
Director Carol Reed's overlooked yet wonderfully crafted adaptation of Graham Greene's short story weaves the tale of a young boy (Bobby Henrey) who is caught up in a web of deception when his family's beloved butler (Ralph Richardson) is suspected of murder. In addition to being a first-class thriller, the film is also a poignant coming-of-age exploration of lost innocence and the painful wisdom that comes with it. Praised for its ingenious Oscar-nominated screenplay, Reed's tense direction, brilliant cinematography, and nuanced performances from the two leads, this is a visually dazzling and delightfully macabre thriller of the highest order that begs to be seen on the big screen!
