As the residents of sorority house Pi Kappa Sigma prepare for the festive season, a stranger begins a series of obscene phone calls with dubious intentions…
Black Christmas is not only a classic holiday genre film, but a seminal piece of Canadian film history. This film paved the way for the slasher genre as we know it today, and would inspire the creation of legendary boogeymen including Michael Myers of Halloween and Jason from Friday the 13th. The feminist themes of Black Christmas introduced us to the “final girl” as a recurring figure in horror cinema, and the film’s focus on bodily autonomy and sisterhood still resonate 50 years later.
Join us for a screening and an exclusive panel discussion on the “Evolution of the Final Girl” and Canadian horror cinema over the last 50 years, featuring Rue Morgue Magazine’s Andrea Subissati, In A Violent Nature’s Andrea Pavlovic and moderated by Hollywood Suite’s Cam Maitland. – ACADEMY OF CANADIAN CINEMA & TELEVISION
