‘Shakedown’ was a series of parties founded by and for African American women in Los Angeles that featured go-go dancing and strip shows for the city’s lesbian underground scene. Inspired by transwoman Mahogany who, as the mother of the scene, presided over queer strip shows and balls for non-heterosexual audiences in the 1980s, butch Ronnie Ron created, produced and presented the new shows. In them, the largely female clientele from the ‘hood’ slipped dollar notes into lap dancers’ panties while celebrating lesbian sexuality to pulsating hip-hop beats.

This month, Sleaze Factory continues cruising through the backrooms to bring you to the underground lesbian extravaganza that was the SHAKEDOWN parties in Los Angeles. This documentary reveals all, and we mean all, that there is to see about this legendary community and party that was run entirely by Black women sex workers. To complete the ultimate immersive experience we strive for, we are once again bringing you entertainment again in addition to the film! And what better way to honour the legacy of this club and the spirit of the documentary than to partner with SAPPHICS PARADISE! SP is a self-managed, queer, SWer run collective with the goal of bringing authentic entertainment in its rawest form to you. Their monthly sell-out parties are the only authentic “gentlefolk” experience in the city where the performance is geared directly to the trans, two-spirit, non-binary, and sapphic community, and now the sensual, jaw-dropping, up close and personal raw entertainment is coming to you right in the comfort of the movie theatre.

The goal of Sleaze Factory is to highlight and pay tribute to Paradise Theatre’s past and celebrating all that is sexy, steamy, hot, filthy,  weird, delightful, dirty, and titillating on screen and beyond!
