In this musical set in an all-Black army camp, civilian parachute maker and “hot bundle” Carmen Jones is desired by many of the men. Naturally, she wants Joe, who’s engaged to sweet Cindy Lou and about to go into pilot training for the Korean War.
Set to the music of Georges Bizet’s 1875 eponymous opera, CARMEN JONES gives it a modern spin with new lyrics and an all Black cast including Harry Belafonte as Joe, a GI , and Dorthy Dandridge as the titular character, working as a parachute factory worker who seduces Joe just as he is headed for flight school.
