For over two decades Donavon Frankenreiter has been traveling the globe, first as a professional surfer and now as a musician. Born in Southern California, Donavon moved to Hawaii at 14 and spent his youth chasing waves, turning pro at 16. In his twenties, he pivoted to music, signing with Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records and releasing his debut album in 2004. Twenty years and 9 studio albums later, he has been on the road ever since.
What moves him has never been a career so much as a way of living: a free spirit sharpened by real work ethic, a life organized around water, song, and the people and cultures he meets at every stop. It’s carried him from one coastline to the next, up mountain slopes and everywhere in between, and it’s what audiences recognize in his blend of laid-back grooves, deeply philosophical yet personal lyrics and soulful, raspy delivery — acoustic beach vibes carrying the DNA of rock ‘n’ roll. Ultimately, Donavon’s music and his way of living are an invitation to his fans to live a little more freely themselves.
In 2024 he released his ninth studio album, Get Outta Your Mind, twenty years on from his self-titled debut. He has toured North America, Australia, Japan, Brazil, Europe and Southeast Asia continuously throughout his career, and 20+ years in, shows no signs of slowing down. Looking ahead, Frankenreiter releases his first-ever instrumental album, Birds, Chimes, Guitars, on September 18, 2026 — and will keep playing shows and chasing waves wherever they may be.
